Need

need

Peru’s native Amazonian and the Andean populations have lived on their same homelands for thousands of years, often walking the same paths their ancestors did. Their lifestyle and cultures are, of course, well adapted to the environment they inhabit.

Their daily lives tend to comprise of survival methods such as fishing, small scale agriculture, hunting, and gathering in the Amazon Rainforest, and growing, harvesting, and cattle herding in the high mountains.

Yet due to the often remote locations of these rural communities, there are many items available in our lives that the people of the Amazon and Andes don’t yet have access to that could otherwise greatly improve their lives.

Anything and everything will be a great help to these people who are so far away from civilization and/or do not have the means.

Mission

values

Kuyapa’s non-profit mission is to provide outreach and support for some of the most overlooked regions in Peru.

Through offering educational, medical, and infrastructural support and sponsorships based on the specific needs of each local community or village, which we have considered first hand, we will deliver solutions that integrate well with the existing society to ensure the sustainability of all our efforts.

By partnering with Delfin Amazon Cruises, which has deep connections to the people and culture of Amazonias, and Escudo, which works closely with the artisans of the Peruvian Andes, Kuyapa aims to utilize both organizations’ strengths in order to create a single channel for assistance, influence, and inspiration to these populations.

Values

mission

Honesty - As a non-profit foundation, Kuyapa is devoted to the honest channeling of all our initiatives and funds. Also by sharing realistic expectations with all parties, we ensure that our work is always transparent and authentic.

Sustainability - Kuyapa believes that social work is useless if its benefits are not carried into the future. This is why our projects are always well thought out before implementation to be certain that positive results can be maintained, with consideration to the existing societal infrastructures, cultural norms, and nature’s own patterns.

Intercultural Exchange - By enlisting the help of locals who grew up in these regions and international experts in their field, Kuyapa is here to help foster intercultural exchanges as well as the sharing of ideas and experiences. Working alongside the native populations of the Andes and the Amazon, we are focused on multifaceted development.

Escudo combines their passion for design with Peru’s vast cultural wealth. Their soulful, one of a kind pieces are inspired by ancestral traditions, as well as a commitment to the development of artisanal techniques, a deep admiration of folk art, and the responsibility that comes with the utmost attention to detail.

Syncretism and cultural fusion work to forge the old with the new: fibres, knits, embroideries, seams, elements and colours that dance and converse, that bring us closer to the essence of our past and project us into the future.
